Job Title: Commercial Underwriter (CII Qualified as a Minimum) Department: SME Package Business

Salary Band: £27,000 to £32,500
Purpose of Role/Job Overview:
To provide efficient, timely and professional support to brokers for package SME quotations and general enquiries. Must have good experience in property & per capita tradesman/contractor risks for the SME package policies and a basic understanding of retail, pub & restaurant package policies.
Develop strong working relationships with broker and insurer partners.
To achieve income and profit objectives through the underwriting of new business proposals, determine policy terms and calculate premiums in line with authority levels and occasionally support the renewals team where necessary.
To gain a strong understanding of the insurance market so that new business proposition can
target specific areas.
Demonstrating your contribution to loss ratio control by effectively adhering to Company's underwriting controls.
To positively reinforce and display group values and to actively drive the business forward in achieving its
Meeting and where possible, exceeding brokers service levels and expectations.
Support wider team to collectively manage workload and provide support to other areas of the business in the event of absence.
Identifying poorly performing accounts and investigating reasons for poor conversion, retention and loss ratios.
Identifying cover and hazards that will impact on the acceptance, pricing, or terms applicable to a risk.
Ongoing monitoring and delivery of both individual and team targets, taking action where necessary to ensure business achieves its objectives.
Understands the impact of claims and risk management on the performance of a case and demonstrates an ability to underwrite taking these factors into account.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key trading partners to maximize influence.
Support the development and operation of sales campaigns to drive the acquisition of profitable business.

CERT CII Dip qualified or working towards
Extensive prior underwriting experience
Strong knowledge of property and casualty business
Experience of handling complex cases
Excellent communication and organizational skills
Ability to manage time effectively, set priorities and meet deadlines
Ability to learn and adapt to change
Desire/ability to work successfully in a small company environment
Proven ability in developing key working relationships and business opportunities
Good negotiation and decision-making skills
Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements as well as technical proficiency on wordings

Understanding of manual rating up process
