Broker/Underwriter Associate – Caribbean Property – About the role

A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Caribbean Insurance Specialist to join my Lloyd’s Coverholder client based within the City of London.

They are looking for an Insurance savvy individual to join their skilled and ambitious team in a broad, hybrid and hands-on role, focussing on providing full round operational support to the successful placement of risks under the Caribbean Property Binder, while maintaining a professional service and standards to agents and markets.  

Broker/Underwriter Associate – Caribbean Property – Key duties

Dealing and reviewing enquiries and pre-underwriting risk and exposure. 

Formulating terms and price in accordance with instructions set out by the Directors.

Producing timely & accurate insurance documentation (Certificates, Endorsements, Quotes, Application Forms and Pictures).

Broke and negotiate risks to facility market panel of Underwriters and negotiating target terms.

General administrative duties including scanning, filing, entering data onto relevant spreadsheets.

Establishing and maintaining key relationships with markets and selected brokers.

Producing debit/credit notes and processing premiums on in-house system.

Ad hoc management information tasks/projects.

Maintain an electronic filing system.

Liaising with agents, underwriters and internal stakeholders.  

Broker/Underwriter Associate – Caribbean Property – Key requirements

Highly desirable:  Insurance qualifications e.g. CII 

Strong core understanding of property insurance principles and market knowledge (ideally Caribbean/CAT prone areas).

At least 1-2 year work experience in the Property insurance industry as a broker or underwriter.

Practice of working within the Lloyd’s Market Place: in either Underwriting or Broking capacity.

Identifies specific client needs and develops innovative solutions meet requirement, while adhering to the underwriting philosophy.

Proficient at working independently and part of a close team, a self-starter; committed to delivering the highest in client service, quality and results

Experienced interacting with a variety of important clients who encompass a wide range of differing characters. Showing a balance between a strong personality to oppose forceful and indulgent scenarios, while adopting the gentle touch and commercial mind during key business moments.
